About the Research
The Birmingham Holocaust Education Center (BHEC) has a multitude of research opportunities for students locally and nationally and is always in need of willing student interns to learn the “ins and outs” of archival and library studies. The Holocaust Studies Research internship was created so that researchers can continue to utilize the BHEC as a resource, but also create an environment where the BHEC is accessible to those students who might be interested in becoming professionals in the fields of archives or library science.
The BHEC Holocaust studies library contains an extensive collection of print and video materials pertaining to the Holocaust, World War II, and the history of antisemitism, including classroom sets of selected books available for loan to teachers. The BHEC archives contains recordings of Holocaust survivor testimonies along with personal photos and historical artifacts. Our new cataloging system will allow individuals, scholars, and teachers to expand their research. The archives’ many resources are currently accessible in person (by appointment) and will soon be searchable online.
This internship is flexible between the BHEC archives and Holocaust Studies library, but experience and training in both will occur. However, the focus on one area over the other will depend on the needs of the BHEC and the interest level of the intern.
